Fall has started and the weather is definitely letting us know that! Along with the cool winds and rainy days, the Iowa Dental Assisting Association just had it's 2017 Fall Continuing Education. We were very happy to host the Iowa Dental Board and Iowa Board of Pharmacy to speak on Dental Assisting and the Opioid Epidemic. We also were able to have Goetze Dental speak on 3D Radiography and Panoramic Films. Overall it was great day, and we learned a lot!
During the Dental Assisting Jurisprudence update, there were a few bits of information that we wanted to pass on to you as Dental Assistants in Iowa.
Continuing education requirements have changed effective for the next renewal period. The following is required for dental assistants:
20 hours total CE per biennium
12 hour limit on online CE per biennium

The assistant must be a Level 1 EFDA provider to enroll in the course. We are also very excited to celebrate our 100th year as an association in the State of Iowa.
We will be celebrating this at our Annual Session, held at the Clarion Highlander Hotel in Coralville, Iowa on April 21, 2018. We would love it if you were able to come celebrate with us! You can find more information and registration details on our website as the date approaches.
Don't forget about our ADAA 8th District CE coming up in Kansas City Missouri on November 4. You can find registration details at www.adaa8thdistrict.org.
Thank you for being a part of this ever growing profession! We are happy that you are a member of the ADAA and would love to hear any ideas you have about Dental Assisting! Keep up the great work!

Greeting from the President
Hello everyone! I am so happy to be able to reach out to you in the Iowa Dental Assistant’s Association’s new newsletter. There has been a lot happening within the association and I wanted to share that with our members.
First off, thank you for being a member in such a wonderful professional association. It is the support from members that really keep this association running smoothly. We would not be able to provide the educational opportunities to you without this support and the last couple of years have been amazing!
If you missed our Annual Session in April, there was a lot of great information you missed out on. We had some wonderful speakers and Dental Assisting students prepared table clinics on topics of what is trending in dentistry right now. It is always a hard thing for the students to get up in front of a large group and speak, but they did a fantastic job!
During the Annual Session we also elected new officers for the IDAA. As the new President, I can not express enough excitement about the upcoming year for our state! We are planning more continuing education for members and wanting to help you get your money’s worth out of your membership dues.
You can find the full list of officers and district trustees that were voted in during annual session on the home page of our website ( www.idaada.org ) If you would like to be involved in the next elections as a district trustee or committee member, please let us know! We would love to have you on our amazing team!
One more exciting piece of news to pass along to everyone is that at our next Annual Session (2018) we will be celebrating our 100th year as an association. This is quite a major accomplishment for an association that started out so meager. We are really looking forward to some of the State history that will be surfacing and brought to the Annual Session.
Please feel free to contact myself or the IDAA if you have any questions about upcoming CE’s, your membership or networking opportunities. The best way to contact us is by email ( email@example.com ), our Facebook Page ( https://www.facebook.com/Iowadaa/ ) or through the contact us page on our website ( www.idaada.org ).
Have a wonderful summer!
